Pram Top/Body:-
Detach the Pram Body (this is the top part that baby sleeps in), this is usually attached to the Under Carriage/Chassis by either Leather Straps, or metal clips either side. Once detached, remove the apron and hood, the hood is attached with 2 screws 1 either side near the hood knobs. Now for the Inside, Take a flat head screwdriver and place a cloth over the end of it, this prevents causing any unneccessary damage to your pram. Now place this under the top edging panels and carefully prise the plastic clips off along with the top edging. The pram bed is attached with 2 screws in the base located either side of the d rings, once unscrewed the bed should just pull out. Now is a good time to clean any dust or dirt from inside (you will be amazed at what you may find in there). If you are wanting to repaint the pram, then you will need to remove all of the chrome mouldings, just like i said earlier use a flat headed screwdriver with a cloth over the end to prevent any damage from the screwdriver. I strongly suggest that you take the pram and chassis to a professional car resprayer company and let them do it. I get charged £30.00 for a full pram, that includes:- sanding, filling, primer, colour paint and clear top coat. Obviously prices will vary between towns e.t.c. If your pram body paint is in reasonably good condition but there is some scratches, take a trip to Halfords and purchase a chip/scatch repair pen, these are great! you pull the top off for the nib and its great to get into the scatches, you untwist the top to reveal the brush this bit comes in very handy when you are wanting to fill in large areas.
Wheels:-
This is the fun part, Get on your rubber gloves and prepare for some hard graft. Fill the bath with hot water and washing up liquid, put the wheels in the bath and leave them to soak for about half an hour. Then armed with a scrubbing brush or a green scourer clean the tyres and the rims/spokes. When i clean the wheels i like to use Cif as the liquid has a gritty feel and also Brillo Pads (These are like Metal wool pad with pink soap onto them). When all the dirt and grime is off the wheels and rims, then you can concerntrate on the rust areas (If you havent got any rust left on, then your very lucky). If rust is still visable then use brillo pads again or use some brasso to remove last remains of any marks. To make the Tyres look Bright White, Buy a trainer whitener liquid polish (you can buy these from most shoe/trainer shops), Simply dab this on the wheels, and there instantly become bright white. Leather Strap's:-
Me personally i like to keep everything as genuine and original as possible! If your straps are just abit faded and the buckles are abit tarnished KEEP THEM! There can be saved, if there a bit stiff leave them in hot water overnight (not boiling Hot!), this will soften the straps. Then take a trip to your local shoe repairer i.e that reheels shoe soles, you should come across tins of leather spray, comes in various colours and costs less than £10.00... Mask off the metal buckles and give the straps several light coats of the paint, making sure you give them enough time to dry between coats as this ensures a top quality end result. Once they completely dry now you can proceed to work on the Buckles, apply little amounts of Brasso with a clean cloth, give the buckles a good rub, keep applying Brasso and rubbing until there the buckles are Nice and Shiny. If your straps are cracked or missing 1 or 2 i do advise that you renew them, please see the Contact/Useful Website section for details.
All other Chrome Work:-
For all the Fixtures and Fittings simply give them a good clean with warm soapy water.. Then apply the Brasso to the metal Parts and give them a good rub and a polish.
Pram Bedding and Edging Fabrics:-
To clean your Pram bedding, simply use warm water and a nice soft cloth... Whatever you do, DO NOT SOAK IN WATER, the bedding is made up of cardboard and if submerged in water, this breaks down the cardboard and is then ruined. If you wish to replace the bedding you can buy this Brand New direct from Silver Cross Please see Contact/Useful Website section for details.
